..........a Story

Recommended Posts

hi , here is a short short story i am sharing,

“You won’t make it that far, don’t wander for you may loose your way back home”. He continues as the bone chilling wind whistles past him, reminding him of his mortality.

“I can touch the rainbow and yet retreat to my cozy adobe”, he continues on a trail covered with dried leaves. They crackle underneath his feet as his eyes strain for the sight of the coveted rainbow. The trail winds through trees that appear as silhouettes wincing in pain;”tell me oh Godforsaken creations, what wrong did you do to deserve this “. Maybe their agony is far beyond his perception, may be they rejoice from this pain or maybe they yearn for freedom.. but they why did God create them ? …..to smile at their misery? “Forgive me Lord for my blasphemy, for I am but me, a mortal of flesh and bones”. And the sound of rushing water from somewhere greets his senses, “oh is this hope ?”. No not hope, not happiness and certainly not dreams are going to unsettle his disposition. His faith , solid as a rock within him urges to shrug away any sensations of ‘life’. Yes life is one continuum that led him astray, the reigns he once grabbed are no longer in his grip. They feel like a noose strangulating him. Gasping for his being that no longer holds any significance he trudges as the eve begins its surrender. His thoughts begin to sift though time searching for the sunshine that may have existed somewhere. Yes it did, once, but it had felt like the blink of an eye, “why happiness is so short-lived and why does reality leave you drowning?”… Perhaps this was life…..

But then had he not been caressed by happiness, he wouldn’t have felt the excruciating reality. He was born innocent, so are we all.

“I was innocent, I could feel the depth of a smile and I could see me in someone else’s eyes”. He chuckles instinctively at another blissful memory, a moment of truth.. so is this another truth… “but my life is a lie, a consolation”. He erupts into a loud laughter and the echoes of his raspy voice resound in his ears. Fear drives him away from the brook he heard. He slogs past the trees navigating him away from nature till he finally stumbles upon sunshine. It has lived in him for years, but diffidence prevails once again as he shuts his eyes firmly. But the image continues to dance; he screams, he shouts, he writhes in pain but the sight remains. His tears had long dried out and tenderness feels alien to him.

Dragging his cage seeking shelter he finds retreat to his fortress of iron walls built around him to guard against the pillaging incursions by bliss. He attempts to retrace his steps, he wants to bury the sunshine deep….. but the trail is gone now. He is lost somewhere in time, he laughs aloud once again, but this time at his own despair.

And then sanity speaks to him “you chose your destiny, you carved your way forward, why do you repent ?” “Utterly right” he hears his voice as he remembers how he wrote in his blood on the iron walls and how the smell felt. He created his own realm, he weaved his own web and he wobbles through it … he just forgot he has to leave a door … And so he resigns to view his creations adorning the walls, bemused after yet another stroll in time.
