Waqas 48 Posted May 17, 2009 ISLAMABAD: Ahle-Sunnat’s Ulema and Mashaikh on Sunday said that Taliban’s agenda is in the favour of Pakistan’s enemies and against the Islam. Speaking at a convention hosted by JUP Fazal Karim Group here, Ulema called for a decisive action against the militants by the armed forces. They also called on the Organization of Islamic Conference (OIC) to come forward for the help of the displaced civilians of Swat and other parts of Malakand region. Addressing the convention, Dr. Sarfaraz Naeemi stressed that Ulema should demonstrate unity among their ranks to thwart the conspiracies of Taliban, Sufi Muhammand and the enemies of the country. He also demanded that the government should reject the American agenda of controlling the religious Madaris. Speaking to the participants, Sarwat Ejaz Qadri said that Taliban had tarnished the image of Islamic Sharia across the world. All muslins needed to stand up against the militants, he commented. Haji Hanif Tayab stated that security forces were fighting the militants to save the country. He called for trial of Sufi Muhammad on the charges of mutiny. Mufti Muneeb-ur-Rehman slammed the establishment for patronizing the militants for almost three decades. He said that “We are now harvesting the crop we sowed three decades ago.” Rehman further said that practice to surrender before the gunpoint should end and urged a decisive offensive agains the militants. The participants of the convention also adopted a resolution backing the all parties conference (APC) convened by the prime minister on current situation. The resolution said: “Assassination of Ulema should be stopped and sacred places, and the shrines should be cleared of the extremists.” It further said that sectarian Sharia enforced on the gunpoint would not be accepted.
