President convenes meeting to discuss security situation

ISLAMABAD: President Asif Ali Zardari, who is in Karachi, has summoned a high-level meeting at the President House to review the security situation in the country, in the wake of the deadly attack in Lahore.

Spokesperson of the President former Senator Farhatullah Babar has said that the meeting will be chaired by President Zardari and attended by heads of all law enforcing and security related agencies after his return from Karachi.

It will take stock of the latest security situation in the country and consider measures for further strengthening it, he said.

The President also telephoned Chief Minister Punjab and condemned the heinous act in which tens of innocent people including security personnel lost their lives and many more injured.

The President expressed the hope that the government had geared its resources to the rescue operation and to provide free medical treatment to the wounded.

The President lauded the services and sacrifices of the security personnel who valiantly bore the brunt of nation’s fight against the militants.

“They deserve the nation’s abiding gratitude”, the President said of the security personnel who were martyred in the attack.

The President also said that the families of the victims should be immediately compensated in accordance with the laid down state policy.

He asked the Chief Minister to convey his deep sorrow and condolences to the members of the bereaved families.

The President said that the militants were on the run and were now trying to create panic among the people through such acts of barbarism but they will not be allowed to succeed.

The President believes that that incidents like the Lahore bomb blast were the dying kicks of the militants who were on the run, the spokesperson said.
