Waqas 48 Posted July 10, 2009 LONDON: A British soldier was killed in an explosion in Afghanistan on Friday, taking Britain''s death toll to 10 in as many days, the defence ministry said. The soldier from the 2nd Royal Tank Regiment "was killed as a result of an explosion that happened during a deliberate operation near Nad-e-Ali, central Helmand province on the morning of 10 July, 2009," a statement said. The soldier''s next of kin have been informed. Britain''s death toll has increased sharply since its forces launched a major airborne assault, codenamed Operation Panther''s Claw, last month against a Taliban stronghold near Gereshk in Helmand province in southern Afghanistan.
