Pirated software in pakistan

Recommended Posts

don't know about ppl outside Pakistan but in Pakistan when we need a software we go to the market

there, we see many CD's packed in a transparent polythene paper. The contents of these CD's ar just softwares, pirated softwares that costs thousands of $$$ when you actually purchase them. We buy one CD that costs 25-50 Pak Rs. and there are more then 50 softwares in it. Even then we drop these CD's by commenting "there aren't much softwares in it"

These CD's actually come from Malaysia and the cracks for softwares are mostly from Russia, UAE and Malaysia.

The Foreign Organizations have been forcing the Pakistani Government to ban all pirated softwares so that they can take control of the Pakistani market with their softwares.

The Rainbow center in Karachi, one of the most active participants in making pirated CD's, was closed some months ago because they were making pirated, illegal copies of the Windows OS owned by Microsoft.

The rumours are in the air that the Pakistani CD market will be closed in less then 2 months and we will no longer be able to purchase the CDs like Microsoft Windows XP 2002 for 30 Rs or so whose actual cost is around 75,000 Rs.

I pray that this time will never come but I have made a back-up of some of the best softwares in market so that I may not regret it later.

yes u might be right. because its been more then 2 months since I posted this topic and nothing happened.

The only thing that is effected are the English MP3 and Videos.

I rarely see a CD in the market because they say they are not being pirated/import

The rainbow center.. in Karachi has stopped copying all kinds of pirated software..... The prices of the CDs have raised as our president has ensured Microsoft that they will stop all kinds of piracy in Pakistan.

now the problem won't be of buying a computer but of purchasing operating systems, Microsoft Word and Antivirus softwares...

I posted this topic a long time ago but now I am watching it being implemented in Pakistan

Assalam-O-Alaikum,

Dear fellows I went to rainbow center yesterday i.e : (13 May 2004) , I could not found any software cd's over there not even Windows 98,Me,2000, or XP . There is a complete ban on software cd's if shopkeeper found selling pireted software cd's then he will suffer a penalty of Rs: 350,000. So now finally Rainbow Center is under observation. However English & Indian movies are openly available but those are pireted too. I still don't beieve that there is such thing as copyright in Pakistan.

AoA To All of You!!!

I just wanted to shar some of MY own feelings about this topic:

Now after reading all the replies ,i think most of you are describing one side of the picture only . No one is caring about those software developers who sell their worthless ideas for nothing . If you think the technology and the ideas behind the WIN XP are just equal to 50 to 25 Rs. then you are on the wrong side. It is the legal as well as moral right of every software developer to get good money of his software. It is just like a shopkeeper who wants to sell his thing to you ,if you have money then you ppl will buy it otherwise just look and leve it .But how many of you will try to steal that thing from his shop ...? i think most of you will certainly say "No we Donn't Want to Steal it " . Similar is the case of softwares , the developers are building them and the thiefs(those who pirate the softwres) are their to steal them. And with the help of these thiefs we ppl ge the softwares.

I just want to show u ppl something, which i think is not bad, is the protection of this site .The admin has changed the feature of "Right -Click button of Mouse" in order to prevent any pirated pics or some data. This is coz the owner of the site has done something wonderfully well in building this site .He has spent money as well as his time on this site and he cann't afford to lose his data through piracy and he decided to disable or change the right click command. Isn't this Mr.Asim. , This is only coz of his brillliant ideas and the hardwork that site has come up leaps and bounds during the past two years. I have seen dramatic changes in the site during these two years:Congrats to u Asim and waqas
